Wallen was born in Sneedville, Tennessee.[1] His father was a preacher, and as a child, Wallen took piano and violin lessons. He played baseball in college, but chose to pursue music instead after an injury. In 2014, he competed on season 6 of The Voice, but was eliminated.[1]

In late 2016, Wallen signed to Big Loud Records, a label owned by record producer Joey Moi. He released his debut single "The Way I Talk" soon afterward.[2] In addition, he co-wrote A Thousand Horses' single "Preachin' to the Choir".[1] In April 2017, Wallen released a music video for "The Way I Talk".[3] He also joined Florida Georgia Line for set dates on their Dig Your Roots Tour.[1]

He's a Huge Sports Fan ...

Before he found his calling in country music, Wallen only had eyes for sports. "As soon as I was old enough to move and walk, I went straight to sports," he says. "My mom said I never even played with toys. I remember playing with little army men for a second, but as soon as that was over it was just basketball, baseball, football -- any kind of ball.”

The Most Important Thing to Him Is to Be Himself

After being on tour with one of country music's biggest acts, Wallen has definitely learned a thing or two about life on the road and performing onstage. His most important discovery? The power that comes from being true to yourself. "I think the most important thing is to be yourself, 100 percent -- to be transparent," Wallen tells The Boot. "If you’re up there and you’re not comfortable in your own skin, people can tell, and it just creates a weird vibe for everybody involved. So I think you just have to be yourself and bring the energy every night and lay it all on the line -- that’s all you can do."
