CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Fresno State wrapped up their season-long four game road trip with a win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Sunday, defeating the Islanders by a final score of 4-0 at Duggan Soccer Stadium
Fresno State would finish 3-1-0 on the road trip with three shutout wins.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Fresno State came storming right out of the gate. After leading a rush into the offensive zone, Tiana Beavers capitalized on a pass from Anaya Shelton inside the middle of the box as Beavers tallied her first goal of the season to put the Bulldogs up 1-0 early. Minutes later, Fresno State took advantage of a free kick from Sabrina Welch as Alexis Campbell snuck one past the goalie. The Bulldogs quickly went up 2-0 just six minutes into the match.
In the 39th minute, Fresno State was awarded their first penalty kick of the season when Aniston Renovato was taken down inside the box. Lauren Machuca made no mistake and beat the Islander's goaltender to give the Bulldogs a 3-0 lead heading into halftime.
The Bulldogs made it four unanswered goals six minutes into the second half. Alexis Campbell sent a shot that deflected off the left post to give the senior her second goal of the day and Fresno State a 4-0 advantage.
Shivani Battaglia, Ashton Conley, and Kennedy Arntzen split time in goal for Fresno State and the trio combined for four saves as Fresno State's defense and goaltending preserved the shutout win.
