IRVINE, Calif. – The Fresno State volleyball team opened the Anteater Classic with a loss to Colorado in straight sets on Friday evening, 25-17, 25-13, 25-13. The Bulldogs move to 2-2 on the year while the Buffaloes improve to 4-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bulldogs and the Buffaloes had an evenly matched first set, staying within four points throughout. Fresno State tied it up at 18 after multiple consecutive Colorado errors to prompt a Buffalo timeout. Colorado pulled ahead with a late surge and won the first set 25-23.
Fresno State pulled ahead in the midst of the second set, led by senior Addison Haluska, with of score of 14-11 in Fresno State's favor before the Buffaloes took a timeout. Colorado pulled ahead in the second set with an attack percentage of .333 in comparison to Fresno State's .176. Colorado closed the second set with a 5-0 run to secure a 25-18 score.
Fresno State looked to extend the match in the third set, but quickly fell behind 12-4 after consecutive kills by the Buffaloes. Haluska and Legault tried to spark the Bulldogs with back-to-back kills, but Colorado maintained its momentum. A 7-2 finishing run by the Buffaloes closed out the sweep, 25-13.
NOTES
Addison Haluska led Fresno State with 15 kills.
Jenna Legault added 6 kills, while Gabby Lombardi dished out 24 assists.
Defensively, Olivia Lombardi tallied a team-high 10 digs.
