COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Fresno State senior Cierra Jackson threw for the farthest discus mark among all athletes on Saturday as the NCAA West First Round competition wrapped up in Texas. Jackson punched her second ticket to the NCAA Outdoor Championship with a mark of 61.27m/201-0 in the discus.
Fresno State has qualified an athlete for multiple events in back-to-back seasons as Jackson joins Jordyn Bryant from 2024 who advanced in shot put and discus. Prior to 2024, it had been over 25 years since Fresno State sent an athlete to the national stage in two events.
For Jackson, it is the second time in her career that she makes a trip to the NCAA Championship in discus, doing so last as a redshirt freshman in 2022.
The senior took all three attempts to earn the top mark in the regional, first fouling on her first attempt and then tossing for 46.85m/153-8 before securing her automatic qualifying throw on attempt number three.
Fresno State will have two Bulldogs competing in Eugene at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in June, including Jackson (shot put and discus) and Ella Spaulding (heptathlon). Spaulding was an automatic qualifier at the end of the regular season. The NCAA championships take place on June 11-14.
