McCarthy builds roster with UAA transfer Ashlyn Rean

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State women's basketball program announced the addition of Ashlyn Rean to the roster for 2025 on Monday afternoon. Rean is the first transfer portal signee brought in by Ryan McCarthy, who was hired as the program's head coach in April.

Rean, a transfer from the University of Alaska Anchorage, follows McCarthy to the West Coast for the upcoming season.The Rangiora, New Zealand native comes to the Valley after one season with the Seawolves with three years of eligibility remaining.

The 6-foot-2 forward made her debut with the Seawolves owning one of the best freshman seasons at UAA. Rean averaged 11.3 points, 7.1 rebounds, 2.1 assists. 2.2 steals on an average of 27 minutes per game. She finished in the top-10 of UAA's freshman lists for points (4th, 372), scoring average (6th), games started (2nd, 32), FG made (4th, 160), FG% (5th), FT made (9th, .52), blocks (3rd, 38), blocks per game (4th), steals (4th, 74), steals per game (5th), rebounds (3rd, 233) and rebounds per game (5th)

Rean owned 32 starts her freshman season aided by 18 games scoring in double-figures with two 20+ point games. The forward also hit four double-doubles on the season. She was named All-GNAC honorable mention as well as the conference's fourth leading field goal shooter (106-of-304).

Prior to UAA, Rean played for New Zealand's age-group national team in 2022 & 2023.

She joins returning Bulldogs Danae Powell, Aloni Oliver, Avery Watkins and incoming 'Dogs, Alexis Graise and Ava Marr.
