Record number of 'Dogs named to NFF Hampshire Honor Society

IRVING, Texas - The Fresno State Football team had a program-record nine student-athletes named to the 2025 National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society, the organization announced on Wednesday. Kosi Agina, Kavika Baumgartner, Dean Clark, Cam Lockridge, Tyler Mello, Toreon Penright, Julian Polendo, Daniel Taumalolo, and Mose Vavao were Fresno State's honorees.

Vavao, who was Fresno State's nominee for the prestigious William V. Campbell Trophy this season, was also a 2024 team captain as voted upon by his peers. Vavao earned a 3.37 cumulative GPA. He earned his undergraduate degree in management.

Agina, a Valley native, boasted a 3.95 cumulative GPA while earning his undergraduate degree in Biology.

Baumgartner carried a 3.20 GPA in interdisciplinary studies while Clark had a 3.75 GPA in business administration. Lockridge had a 3.37 GPA while studying africana studies, Mello had a 3.73 cumulative GPA in agriculture business, and Taumalolo had a 3.61 GPA while being a sports administration student-athlete.

In addition to the seven graduated student-athletes, two earned the honors and will return this season for the 'Dogs. Penright and Polendo each carry a 3.22 cumulative GPA. Penright is a communication major, and Polendo a sociology major.

An elite group of 2,532 players from 339 colleges and universities have been honored as members of the Society, establishing a new all-time high for membership. Since its inception, the initiative has honored 20,946 student-athletes.

Nominated by their respective schools, members of the NFF Hampshire Honor Society must be either:

A senior player, who will graduate this spring/summer, and just completed his final year of playing eligibility in 2024; or

A graduated player or grad transfer, who has already earned a bachelor's degree and competed in the 2024 season (even if the player has remaining eligibility and may return to play next season).

And must have:

Attained a minimum undergraduate cumulative GPA of 3.2 (4.0 scale); and

Been starters or contributors throughout the 2024 season.

Fresno State has had at least one student-athlete named to the NFF Hampshire Honor Society every year since 2013.
