'Dogs travel South for Pauma Valley Invitational

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State men's golf team will be competing in the Pauma Valley Invitational hosted by LMU at the par-71, 7,311-yard Pauma Valley Country Club, March 18-19.

THE FIELD

The 15-team field includes BYU, Cal, Colorado, Fresno State, LMU, Oklahoma, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Pacific, Saint Mary's, San Diego, SMU, TCU, UCLA and Vanderbilt.

Fresno State will be paired with BYU and UCLA.

Monday, March 18 – 36 holes – 7:40 a.m. PT shotgun start

Tuesday, March 19 – 18 – 7:40 a.m. PT shotgun start

LAST TIME OUT

The Fresno State men's golf team finished tied for second place at the Lamkin Invitational after carding an 18-under 846 at the San Diego Country Club.

San Diego won the tournament with a score of 22-under, followed by the Bulldogs and Colorado. Georgia Tech was fourth at 16-under, one shot ahead of New Mexico and Loyola Marymount, rounding out the top five.

Sutherland led the 'Dogs through the weekend, finishing tied for third with a score of 8-under 208 for his second consecutive top-10 finish. Joseph Lloyd was shot the low round of the day on Tuesday, posting a 2-under 70, to finish tied for ninth with an overall score of 7-under. Matthew Manganello shot a 3-under 213, tying for 19th in the field.

Ryan Firpo carded a 2-over and Jaden Hunter followed at 4-over.

MOVING UP

Fresno State has moved up to No. 42 in the national golf rankings.

FALL HIGHLIGHTS

Fresno State had three Top 5 finishes.

Fresno State scored a program-low one-round low score of 263 at the Maui Jim Intercollegiate, surpassing the previous low of 266.

Matthew Manganello tied the program record for lowest round vs. par with a 9-under 62 at the Nick WatneyInvitational.

Joseph Lloyd tied the program record for lowest 54-hole record versus par with a 17-under 196 at the Maui Jim Intercollegiate.

Matthew Sutherland had three Top 5 tournament finishes.

MANGANELLO'S MONSTER ROUND

Senior Matthew Manganello had a career-low round at the Nick Watney Invitational recording a 9-under 62, tying the program record for lowest round vs. par. He had seven birdies and one eagle in the third round.

Manganello finished the tournament with a team-best 10-under 203, tying his career-low. He finished sixth overall in the tournament.

IT WAS A SUTHERLAND SUMMER

Matthew Sutherland had an eventful summer bringing some hardware back to the Valley. The senior won the Sacramento City Amateur and the 99th California State Fair Amateur.

Sutherland qualified for the U.S. Amateur for the second consecutive year, where he became the first Bulldog to advance to the final 16 since 2009.
