Fresno State falls in game two, 10-4

RENO, Nev. – The Fresno State softball team dropped the second game of the series to Nevada 10-4 at Christina M. Hixon Park on Saturday afternoon.

The Bulldogs (17-8, 0-2 MW) was held to a season-low five hits for the third time this season. Senior Sophia Medellin went 2-for-3 at the plate with a home run.

Three pitchers saw time in the circle for Fresno State, totaling six strikeouts.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Natalie Elias drew a leadoff walk and back-to-back singles from Medellin and Keahilele Mattson brought her around the bases. Nevada tagged Medellin out at home plate, but Juliana Wilson stepped up with a two-RBI home run to give the Bulldogs a 3-0 lead going into the bottom of the frame.

Nevada followed with four runs on six hits to take a 4-3 lead. The Wolf Pack tacked on another run in the next frame, making it a 5-3 game after two innings.

Fresno State got one back with a solo home run from Medellin in the top of the third. It was a one-run game going into the bottom of the third.

Nevada added a run in both the third and fourth innings before breaking the game open in the fifth. The Wolf Pack blasted a three-run home run in the bottom of the fifth game, taking a 10-4 lead.

Fresno State was unable to get its offense going in the final innings, dropping the first series of conference play.

Fresno State and Nevada will play the series finale tomorrow at 12 p.m. PT.
