'Dogs open Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational

LIHUE, Hawai'i – The Fresno State women's golf team will open the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational hosted by Hawai'i at the 5,929-yard, Par 72 Ocean Course Hokuala, March 17-19.

THE FIELD

The 15-team field includes Hawai'i, Arizona State, Boise State, Fresno State, Long Beach State, Mercer, Morehead State, New Mexico, North Carolina, Rutgers, Sacramento State, San Francisco, Texas State, Tulane and Washington.

LAST TIME OUT

The Fresno State women's golf team opened its spring schedule with a fourth place finish at the Causway Invitational, carding a 34-over 898.

Freshman Amelia Garibaldi led the Bulldogs placing third with a total score of 2-over 218, her highest finish of the year.

Sophia Chen followed with an 8-over 224. Katelyn Lehigh and Katelyn Harris finished at 12-over, and Vunnisa Vu was 18-over.

Meredith McDougal competed as an individual, finishing +22.

HIGHLIGHT OF THE FALL

At the first tournament of the season, Fresno State recorded a new program low two-round total of 15-under par 561 at the Timpanogos Collegiate Classic in Provo.

The Bulldogs tied the program record for the lowest score in a 54-hole tournament with a 12-under par 852.

Sophomore Katelyn Lehigh captured the 19th medalist honor in program history, winning the Timpangos Collegiate Invitational. Lehigh set a new program record for the lowest three-round total, carding an overall score of 15-under par 201.

Transfer Jinyu Wu recorded a seventh-place finish in her first tournament as a Bulldog, scoring a 73 on day three for a 7-under 209 total. Wu's score tied the program's fifth-lowest three-round total.

NEW KIDS ON THE COURSE

Fresno State only returned two players from last season, adding five newcomers.

The Bulldogs added two transfers to the roster in Jinyu Wu (Washington State) and Meredith McDougal (Westmont College). Along with three freshmen in Amelia Garibaldi, Sophia Yi-Ju Chen and Vunnisa Vu.
