Doctors Weigh in: Do Cold Showers Offer Similar Benefits Of Ice Baths?

Ice baths are all the rage. "Cold water immersion" is supposed to help with inflammation, focus, and exercise recovery. So a lot of stars have them backstage now.

But most people don't have the space or the money for one. So, here's a question: Could a really cold SHOWER do the same thing?

Someone talked to doctors and other experts about it, and the answer is . . . maybe SOME of the same benefits.

There haven't been a ton of studies on it yet. But one in 2022 found people reported lower stress levels when they took minute-long cold showers every day.

At least one expert thinks cold showers could also improve blood flow. And there's some evidence they could boost your immune system too.

That said, ice baths have KILLED people before. It spikes your blood pressure and heart rate when you first get in. And that can happen with cold showers too. So people with heart issues and other conditions should talk to their doctor first.

If you do try it, experts say to start slow. Ease into it by using lukewarm water first, and making it colder. And don't stay in too long. 15 to 30-second bursts are good to start. Then up it by 15 seconds every few weeks.
