Jason Aldean shared the story behind “How Far Does A Goodbye Go” in a new clip shared on Wednesday (February 11).
Aldean and songwriters Kurt Allison, John Edwards, Tully Kennedy and John Morgan spoke about “the inspiration and songwriting process” behind the heartache anthem, which arrived in September 2025. Aldean said when he heard the song for the first time, he knew, “that’s our first single. That’s what’s going to launch the album.” “How Far Does A Goodbye Go” is one of 20 tracks on Aldean’s upcoming studio record, Songs About Us. The album will also include “Easier Gone” with wife Brittany Aldean (who also appears in the 70s-inspired music video for “How Far Does A Goodbye Go”), “Help You Remember,” “What’s A LIttle Heartache,” “Hard To Love You,” “Her Favorite Color,” “Lovin’ Me Too Long” and more. Songs About Us will release on April 24.
“It means the world when one of my songs helps someone through a hard time—or celebrates their best moments,” Aldean said in a statement when he announced album details in November 2025. “This album is about all of that—the highs, the lows, and everything in between. Every track started with a real story or feeling, and together we turned those experiences into music. In the end, I realized this album is about all of us. These are songs about us.”
Aldean is among the country artists nominated at the 2026 iHeartRadio Music Awards, returning this spring to Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California. See the list of country artists nominated here.
