Kacey Musgraves clapped back at rumors that she reacted with a “scowl” when Beyoncé won Best Country Album at the 67th Grammy Awards on Sunday evening (February 2). This year’s event took place at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California, and raised funds and awareness for wildfire relief.

Taylor Swift revealed Beyoncé as the winner in the Best Country Album category for her history-making COWBOY CARTER record, which also went on to win Album of the Year (a career first for Beyoncé). Musgraves was also nominated for her highly-anticipated Deeper Well album, along with Chris Stapleton (Higher), Lainey Wilson (Whirlwind) and Post Malone (F-1 Trillion). The camera showed a glimpse of Musgraves’ reaction to Beyoncé’s victory, and the clip went viral.

“It’s a sensationalistic false narrative meant to pit two talented female artists against each other,” a rep for Musgraves told E! News in a statement. “There was simply no scowl or expression made.”

Musgraves, who wore a stunning Ralph Lauren look on the Grammys red carpet, won in the Best Country Song category earlier in the evening. Musgraves won for “The Architect,” a ballad that appeared on Deeper Well. The Texas-born country superstar said as she accepted the award on Sunday: “There’s so much darkness in this word right now, and it just feels so good to be able to fight some of that darkness through song. It’s such an honor.”
