California's housing market in 2022 is not for the faint of heart. A recent report from the California Association of Realtors revealed that only 24% of California households could afford to purchase the $797,000 median-priced home during the first quarter of 2022. As housing costs continue to rise, we got curious about what kind of houses are up for sale that isn't near the million-dollar mark.
To find the cheapest California home we went to Zillow and searched for the lowest price and filtered out lots, land, and apartments. The lowest-priced house in the state is a foreclosed home at 535 Florence Dr. in a town called Weed. Its asking price is $19,900 and has 3 bedrooms and 1 bathroom. It was first sold in 2006 for $105,000 but has clearly depreciated in value. It's also been listed as uninhabitable.
