Granger Smith And His Family Enjoy 'Remote Cabin' Getaway In Texas

Granger Smith and his wife Amber are soaking up every minute they have left of the summer with their kids London, 8, and Lincoln, 6. Before sending them back to school, the couple wanted to make a few more family memories and decided to go on a last minute trip to a remote cabin in Texas.

On Tuesday (August 11), Amber turned to Instagram to share several photos from the getaway starting with a selfie of the four of them outside. "We got away for a quick little, last minute trip before school starts," Amber wrote in the caption. "We went to an adorable remote cabin in Jefferson, TX."

She continued on to share how the family spent their time away. "We put down the phones, we played games, fished, explored, journaled, read the Bible while the sun came up and just enjoyed being together," she shares. "It was such a refreshing little getaway and we can't wait to go back."

"I also saw my first live blue butterfly," Amber added. "It fluttered around Lincoln and I for a while and I felt such peace, wonder and gratitude 🦋 Linc kept trying to catch it. He said, “mama, it’s your sign. I want to catch it and take it home so you can look at it every day” 😭sweet boy. Thank you Lord for these humans and for your beautiful canvas 🎣🌲❤️✨"

The Smith family getaway comes just a few months after the one year anniversary of their 3-year-old son River's tragic drowning accident in June 2019.

"365 days since I held your curious, playful, vivacious spirit alive," Amber wrote as she remembered her son in June 2020. "It’s hard for me to grasp that I’ve been without you a third of the time I had with you. Time doesn’t make sense. Heck, most of life doesn’t make sense."

"Today, I’m holding on to hope," she continued. "I’m lifting my gaze to what is unseen and instead of letting myself go down a bad road of guilt, pain, and anger, I’m going to praise. I’m going to thank God for you. You changed me forever, River Kelly."

Over the last year, both Granger and Amber have documented parts of the family's healing process through multiple social media posts while also periodically sharing videos to their family YouTube channel, The Smiths.

The Smith family also continues to honor their late son's memory through the River Kelly Fund. The organization will support charities and causes that are close to the family's heart, including arts and education, wildlife preservation, first responders and more.
