Taylor Swift's Song For Her Mom 'Soon You'll Get Better' Is a Sob Fest

Taylor Swift released her long-awaited seventh album, Lover, at midnight today (August 23) and it is filled with bops of the highest and purest perfection. But track 12, "Soon You'll Get Better (Feat. Dixie Chick)" packs a whole other punch that requires multiple tissue boxes.

After the song titles were released, many fans speculated that this song would be for Swift's mom Andrea who has been battling cancer. The "Lover" singer first notified fans of her mom's cancer in a heartfelt Tumblr post in 2015. "I'm saddened to tell you that my mom has been diagnosed with cancer," she wrote. "I'd like to keep the details of her condition and treatment plans private, but she wanted you to know."

In March of this year, the 29-year-old singer gave fans an update about her mom's diagnosis in her "30 Things I Learned Before Turning 30" essay for Elle. She sadly revealed that her mom's cancer had returned. "Both of my parents have had cancer, and my mom is now fighting her battle with it again," she wrote. Little did fans know that this would be an Easter egg for the twelfth track on Lover.

The song is a slow guitar-driven ballad that is very reminiscent of another song Swift wrote for her mom, "The Best Day." While Swift has decided to keep the details private she does give fans an inside look at the personal struggle her family faced with the news. Swift sings: I know delusion/When I see it in the mirror/You like the nicer nurses/You make the best of a bad deal/I just pretend it isn't real. The Dixie Chicks (who are Andrea's favorite band) join in with her during the chorus: Soon you'll get better/Oo-ah/ Soon you'll get better/Ooh-ah/You'll get better soon/'Cause you have to.

Fans can tune in to hear Taylor talk about all things Lover on Friday, August 23rd at 8pm ET/5pm PT on iHeartRadio Pop, Hot AC and AC stations, as well as on Taylor Swift: Lover Radio on the iHeartRadio app. And in case you missed anything, Swifties can hear the special on Taylor Swift: Lover Radio every 30 minutes, all weekend long.
